Tip: the Big Shout

Your horse tried to tell you something when he wouldn't stand still for mounting, and/or he kept running away from you, or pinned his ears back, or stomped his feet or did some jigging -

those were his not so quiet whispers which you probably ignored - so he decided to SHOUT! and Yell at you to let you know he wasn't happy - meaning the jigging or pawing increased, the head went way up, he started popping up or bucking or hopping all over the place or got ready to bolt -

the SHOUT is the behavior that is scaring the bejesus out of you - the darling escalated to that point because he was trying desperately to communicate with you, and you didn't understand him or just plain ignored him.

I did that so many times in the past  - I simply didn't know any better - and had always been told that I was the boss and he better darn well do what I tell him to - well, not listening and being bossy is not always a good choice - which is why I used to end up on the ground so darn much !

I am one heck of a fine listener now !!!

  2. Hi Nancy, thanks for your comment - I am about 2.5 hours from, 35 miles north of Utica. I am one of the lucky ones that have the time to ride my guys - my family is grown and horses are my business - now how lucky can you get? You sound hopeful and discouraged and completely horse crazy which is so cool .. .
